What Barlow Tyrie calls itself, in its own book’s own words.
Barlow Tyrie’s book opens with a claim it makes about itself, not one made for it: “Founded in 1920, BARLOW TYRIE is the world’s oldest manufacturer of teak leisure furniture.” The house is English, based in Braintree, Essex.
Its printed range runs wider than that founding claim alone suggests: teak, aluminium and woven leisure furniture sit alongside a parasol and pavilion range built from FSC-certified eucalyptus and anodised aluminium. The six collections this index reads are named below.

Canopy
One cloth runs the whole parasol range: Sunbrella® .302 Canvas. The house’s own materials copy describes Sunbrella as 100% solution-dyed acrylic yarn, finished with a Teflon® coating.
Ballast
The Napoli Cantilever’s freestanding base takes twelve concrete slabs, 45 × 45 × 3cm, marked “not supplied” — and the book carries its own sum in print: “12 slabs x 14kg = 168kg + 42kg = Total 210kg.”
Care
Barlow Tyrie prints a real paragraph on this, worth quoting rather than paraphrasing: “Although Sunbrella® fabric will not mildew or mould, we recommend that the canopy is cleaned regularly to prevent the accumulation of dirt on the fabric. A stain repellent has been applied to the .302 canvas-colour fabric to make the cleaning process easier.”
