2. 17of the 24 coded frame colours are chromatic

   The colour is the range, not a finish option.

   32 powder-coat colours for the frame, of which 24 carry a printed RAL reference. Sorted by RAL’s own hue groups, 17 of those 24 sit in a colour family — yellow, red, violet, blue, green, brown — against 7 greys, whites and blacks. The other 8 print no code, so we have not classified them either way.

   The phrase “low maintenance” is printed nowhere in the catalogue, so it is not printed here. What the catalogue publishes instead is resistance, material by material: ultraviolet light, salinity, chlorine, saltwater, stains, mildew, mould, heat and scratching, across 11 material rows. What it does not publish is a cleaning interval, a warranty term, a salt-spray figure or a wind rating — and neither do we.

   The range is named after the coast.

   iSiMAR never calls its furniture Mediterranean. It names the collections after the places: 25 of the 40 collections named for a real place are a Mediterranean town, island or region, 15 of them in the current book. Read the range and you are reading a coastline.

The Mediterranean count is our classification, and the only one on this page that is: a collection counts when the name as printed is a town, island, region or city with a Mediterranean coastline, which is why each is listed with its place. The rule is deliberately too strict — NOSTRUM is from Mare Nostrum, the Roman name for the sea itself; MISTRAL is the wind off Provence; BORA is the wind off the Adriatic; MITJORN is a Formentera beach, and Catalan for midday; CALA is the word for one of its coves; OLIVO is the olive tree — and none of those six counts. Nor does the naming hold everywhere. The other 15 place-named collections are ANGLET, BIARRITZ, BOLONIA, CHICAGO, CÁDIZ, FARGO, FARO, HABANA, LONDON, MADRID, MANCHESTER, ROTTERDAM, SEVILLA, TARIFA, TORINO: the Atlantic seaboard, inland Spain and Italy, northern Europe and the Americas.
