Cushion thickness follows the frame: each frame’s seat is built low or high for the cushion it is designed to carry. A dining pad is therefore thin and deep seating thick, and neither is an upgrade on the other.

For a dining chairs or armchair

3–6 cm seat pad — slim enough to keep the lines of the chair in view and leave knee room under a 74 cm table. A metal shell takes the slimmer end, with a non-slip base; teak and woven frames carry 4–6 cm, with an optional tied back pad.

Core

Cushions for exposed pieces have an open-cell, fast-draining (reticulated) foam core, so water runs straight through rather than pooling in the foam. A crowned top sheds standing water. Neither makes a cushion waterproof: outdoor cushions are built to drain.

Fabric

In outdoor fabric, what matters is the fibre. Solution-dyed yarn carries its colour all the way through, so it holds up to sun and scrubbing; surface-dyed cloth loses its colour as it wears. Performance fabrics resist water but are not waterproof. Mildew grows on dirt left on the cloth rather than in the fibre. The usual care advice is to wash and dry the cloth, and to stand a soaked cushion on its edge to drain.

Patterns & your own fabric

Plains, stripes and prints can all be specified. The brief records the repeat, the direction and any railroading, so the pattern lines up on every panel. Many pieces also accept customer’s own material (C.O.M.); the brief asks whether you will supply your own.

Made to order through our supplier workshops: sized to this frame, in your chosen fabric, from a thin dining pad to full deep-seating cushions.

Stainless steel

Iron is the main alloy component, with carbon, nickel and chromium, giving high resistance to ambient corrosion. Stainless can still be marked by some acids — salt residue among them — so periodic cleaning is what keeps it right.
